Winter at Goodnestone Park Gardens
For our winter journal edition this year, we have been out and about in the Kent countryside to find new inspiration to share with you. This month we visited Goodnestone Park Gardens near Canterbury to capture their famous carpets of snowdrops which can be found at this time of year in the Woodland Garden. A haven for nature lovers, we were thrilled to find such a wonderful garden to explore, and on what was a crisp bright winters day, we were able to capture some stunning inspirations to bring back to the design studio this month.
A family estate steeped in history with 14 acres to explore.
The privately owned house and gardens have been in the FitzWalter family for over 300 years and has connections to Jane Austen who was a frequent guest for dinners and dances. Jane stayed at Goodnestone in 1796 shortly before she began writing Pride & Prejudice, and visitors can walk in her footsteps by following the 18th century walk around the park.
The gardens are today, considered one of the most beautiful in Kent, and a wonderful source of inspiration for our designs to share with you.
Interior design inspired by snowdrops, natural textures & winter hues.
Our interior design concept for this winter journal edition is of course inspired by the wonderful display of snowdrops that can be found at Goodnestone Park Gardens at this time of year. We also captured some stunning textures and hues from our walk around the estate which we have reflected within the scheme created.
The concept as a whole is earthy and organic, yet fused with elements of luxurious contemporary styling. Rustic textures such as the stone flooring, timber and slub linen are juxtaposed with elegant pendant lighting that echoes the snowdrops. Subtle hints of warm terracotta accents within the cushion and lamp are a reflection of the colour palette captured from some of our photographs. As this is a Winter scheme we have incorporated cosy elements such as the sheepskin chair and woollen throws to create a perfect setting to put your feet up in front of the fire after a winters walk.
Visiting Goodnestone Park Gardens
Goodnestone Park Gardens, Goodnestone, Canterbury, Kent, CT3 1PJ
If you would like to visit the gardens yourself this year, we would highly recommend their Old Dairy Cafe. Their seasonal lunch menu is an absolute delight, with homemade food using local ingredients, and their passionate chef, Chris is also collaborating with Head Gardener Paul Bagshaw on produce being grown in the gardens – and Chris even makes all of the bread on the menu too!
Events, workshops and garden tours are being held throughout the year – so be sure to check their website to find out what’s on to plan your day out in advance.
We hope you have a lovely day out as we did and feel inspired to create your dream home this winter.
